5. Admission decision number: Decision number 2999/QĐ-ĐHKHTN, dated on 18/8/2016, signed by the Rector of VNU University of Science.

6. Changes in academic process:

7. Official thesis title: Analysis and evaluation the distribution of siloxanes and phthalates in indoor air

8. Major: Analytical Chemistry                            9. Code: 9440112.03

10. Supervisors: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tu Binh Minh

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Manh Tri

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- The high sensitivity gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method combined with sampling technique using the low-volumn pumps, quartz filters, and polyurethane foam cylinders were standardized for simultaneous analysis of siloxanes and phthalates in indoor air.

- Initial study on the distributions of siloxanes and phthalates in indoor air from various micro-environments in several northern cities, Vietnam.

- Initial assessment of the exposure risks of siloxanes and phthalates through inhalation for various age groups.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

- The research results provided a standardized method for accurately analyzing siloxanes and phthalates in the air, so it can be a good scientific basis for developing standards for these compound groups. In addition, the study also contributed to providing a modern analysis method what may be applied in intensive laboratories.

- The results on the polluted levels of siloxanes and phthalates in 97 indoor air samples helped environmental management agencies, scientists and society to have more information on the distribution as well as the exposure risks to human health of these compounds.

13. Further research directions, if any:

The contribution of siloxanes and phthalates in the indoor environments depending on various factors such as space, time, temperature and pressure should be considered in the future. Furthermore, the risk assessment of the human exposure to these compounds needs to be studied in the long term.
