11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- Reviewed relevant studies and established a scientific basis based on landscape analysis, landscape functions and services assessment in associated with the analysis of climate change, natural disasters impacts, and development strategies of the marine economy for the proposition of spatial orientation for rational use of resources and environmental protection of the coastal zone;

- Analyzed the characteristics of the landscape components; identified landscape classification system and landscape zoning of the coastal zone of Phu Yen Province with 01 system, 02 sub-systems, 03 classes, 04 subclasses, 04 types, 18 genus and 63 species in 6 landscape sub-regions, presented on the landscape categorial map and landscape zoning map at scale 1/50.000. The distribution of landscape units has reflected the distinctive differentiation of the coastal landscape in the descending direction of the terrain elevation from West to East and the parallel layering of the landscape along the coastline. Mountainous-hilly landscapes and seascapes dominate the area, but the coastal plain plays a particularly important role in terms of economic and settlement development.

- Identified the coastal landscape service system of Phu Yen Province, including 31 landscape services and 39 landscape service indicators belonging to 3 main landscape service groups: provisioning services, regulation and maintenance services and cultural services. The value of landscape services varies by group of services, by landscape species, by a group of landscape species, and by landscape sub-region. This is a particularly important basis for determining the main functions of each landscape species, group of landscape species, and sub-landscape region. Thereby helping to orientate the space to rationally use resources and protect the environment in the coastal zone of ​​Phu Yen Province.

- Identified, classified and analyzed the interactions between landscape services in the coastal zone of Phu Yen Province, including: conflict/trade-off (correlation - -), synthesis/combination (correlation ++) and compatibility (correlation 00). Conflicts and trade-offs occur between provisioning landscape service types, between provisioning landscape service types and cultural landscape service types (leading to conflict, trade-off space); between provisioning landscape service types, cultural landscape service types and regulation and maintenance services (leading to environmental pollution, ecological and biodiversity degradation).

- Proposed 32 priority spaces in 6 landscape sub-regions for rational use of natural resources and environmental protection in the coastal zone of Phu Yen province. These spaces are determined based on the results of landscape character analysis; assessment of the value of landscape services and their interactions, and at the same time take into account the orientation of local socio-economic development strategies in the context of climate change and natural disasters impacts. Each priority space is organized according to the orientations of economic development, resource use and environmental protection by the landscape structure, functions /services, the socio-economic development master plans and marine economic development strategy of Phu Yen Province.

12. Paratical applicability, if any:

The database system, research results and thematic maps of the thesis are scientific documents of practical value for spatial planning of resource use and coastal protection at the provincial level (especially Phu Yen province) for managers' reference when providing organizational orientations, sustainable use of the territory and integrated coastal zone management.

13. Further research directions, if any

- Research to complete the theory of seascape classification and determining criteria for each taxonomy level.

- Clarify methods to identify types and levels of inconsistencies in the process of using landscape services.

- Implement landscape service valuation researches in the study area to give more solid basis for spatial orientation of economic development associated with rational use of resources, environmental protection, and security - defense assurance.
