(Effects of text structure on reading comprehension of Vietnamese students learning French)

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
An empirical study assessing effects of text structure on the reading comprehension of Vietnamese students learning French allows to conclude that the text structure exerts a considerable influence on their reading comprehension no matter what their languagein level is. Those students who have better knowledge of text structure are better at reading comprehension and memorization of text information than those who lack knowledge about the structure of the text. This result confirms once again the results of previous studies on the effects of text structure on reading comprehension among different categories of learners. As a result, we need to give foreign languages students an explicit teaching of text structure knowledge and methods of using them on the reading process of texts. Some of the major directions have been proposed to teach and apply text structure knowledge in learners’ reading comprehension process.
12. Practical applicability, if any: Application of method and pedagogic approaches on teaching reading comprehension skills for Vietnamese students learning French through eliciting different text structures.
