The training program in Computer Science (CS) is one of four undergraduate programs of the IT Department, VNU School of Engineering and Technology, in order to aim towards the international training standards. Students attending the CS program will get the best quality in the training program  of the  IT Department. All the base and specialized courses are taught in English. Scientific research is a required component of Computer Science students. With the  firm professional level, good English proficiency, Computer Science graduates are always appreciated by recruiters.

In 5/2014, the Computer Science programs of VNU have been evaluated by ASEAN University Network (AUN). The appraisal experts of AUN have highly appreciated the Computer Sciences program based on 15 standard groups, which include the standards of program content, student quality, lecturer quality and satisfaction of the recruiters. This is a good premise for IT Department to prepare for ABET accreditation in the future.                                                                                                                      

The VNU School of Engineering and Technology considers the cooperation with the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) as an opportunity to improve the training quality and the development of cooperation in science and technology. The cooperation planning between two sides will be an opportunity for both sides to share resources and strengths of each side through specific programs so that the process of implementation could bring about practical efficiency.

In 6/2013, Dr.Zbigniew Czajkiewic – Rector of Science and Computer Engineering visited Vietnam and worked with leaders of VNU, VNU School of Engineering and Technology and IT Department.

Based on the draft plans worked out by the two sides, in July 2014, during the working visit with a number of U.S. universities, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ, leaders from VNU School of Engineering and Technology, IT Department along with the UHCL Faculty continued to carry out a training program in accordance with the 2 +2 model.

In the immediate future, cooperation between the two units will focus on building the training program 2 +2 in Computer Science. VNU School of Engineering and Technology can supply the high quality students to continue Computer Science program at the UHCL. Vice versa, the Computer Science program of the UHCL accredited by ABET will support improving the quality of training Computer Science programs of VNU to approach the testing of ABET. In addition, the collaboration between lecturers and researchers of VNU School of Engineering and Technology and the UHCL will also open up many opportunities for collaboration in research projects and technology transfer.

In the U.S. working visit from 4 -14/7/2014, on 9^th July 2014, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ and UHCL President William A. Staples on behalf of the two universities signed the bilateral cooperation document.

The content of the cooperation document focuses on implementing the 2+2 linkage program for undergraduate students of Computer Science branch.

UHCL has committed giving consultancy and support to VNU to develop the Computer Sciences undergraduate program with the content and standards equivalent to the UHCL program and accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
