11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
1)  Calculate the average ear-voice-span in English-Vietnamese simultaneous interpreting (3 second), providing a basis for identifying successful anticipation in simultaneous interpreting.
2) Calculate the average delivery speed (syllable count) in English-Vietnamese simultaneous interpreting (3 syllables per second), proving that this speed is is somewhat dictated by the SL speaker tendency by the interpreter to speed up toward the end of an utterance when there has been an extended spell of longer-than-usual EVS.
3)  Analyze the strategies and cues employed by the interpreter in English-Vietnamese simultaneous interpreting. These include inferences and anticipation due to the overall objective (linguistic) and subjective (cognitive) redundancy in the discourse. Successful anticipation in evidenced in the data by evs of 1-2 seconds or even negative lag time. Strategies in the later stage, at the gate of production, include judgment, compensation, online self-correction, and compression. High redundancy in the discourse provides the interpreter with opportunities for compression.
4)  Identify possible causes of errors and failures in English-Vietnamese simultaneous interpreting, such as complex sentence structure with a sudden influx of new or unfamiliar referents, information density in the rheme, which is often observed in recited written text, or the absence of illocutionary marking, numbers, names and dates, especially if they are not retrieved within 3-4 seconds.       
12. Practical applicability:
- Provide a theoretical basis for the development of training curriculum for simultaneous interpreters in Vietnam, especially the relevant skills and strategies for simultaneous interpreting
- Provide a basis for comparative studies of simultaneous interpreting from other languages into Vietnamese and vice versa
13. Further research directions:
 Expand the research with a larger data base, including greater variety of speech types, topics, as well as a larger contingent of participants, not only professional interpreters but also interpreting students. Future research in this direction may require the careful manipulation of variables, such as the type of text or discourse, the Speaker (accent and grammar), and the degree of support available to the interpreter (from context, background knowledge, and intentionality marking in the discourse). Other factors which also deserve to be explored include the presence and absence of Addressees, the effect of the interpreter’s knowledge about her Addressees, and the specific problems associated with culture-bound discourses.
