11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

- The thesis is the first one to systematically study Vietnamese and American novels about the Vietnam War in the post-war era from a comparative perspective with the ambition of viewing the representations of the war in literature from both country's perspectives, clarifying the similarities and differences of the two streams of literature in explaining and making sense of the war.

- From a new perspective of cultural studies and poetics, the dissertation illuminates the familiar Vietnamese literary works about the war in new dimensions and aspects, providing different interpretations than those of previous approaches.

- In addition, the thesis is also an overall introduction to American novels about the Vietnam War that are not well known in the current domestic research situation and, at the same time, a postcolonial reading of American works from a Vietnamese perspective.
