8. Major: Geology                                                         9. Code: 9440201.01

10. Supervisors:  Prof. Dr. Tran Nghi, Dr. Nguyen The Hung

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- The thesis has analyzied the characteristics and processed the deformation types of post-rift faults in order to build the reconstructionl sections of secondary basins.

- The thesis has built three schemas of paleogeographic lithologic facies for the system tract domains of sequence stratigraphy: the Lowstand Systems Tract period (LST) aged early Miocene; the Transgressive Systems Tract period (TST) aged middle Miocene; the Highstand Systems Tract period (HST) aged late Miocene;

- The thesis has proven that the free reflection sequence aged late Miocene having on the seismic sections was created due to the sequence with the abandance of biological clastic fragments and they were determined by lithologic thin section analysis. They are products that were eroded and destroyed from the blocks of reef aged middle Miocene that played the role of eroded zone.

- The thesis has also determined the types of typical petroleum trap related to the tectonic events. In early Miocene, they were the structural traps related to the inverted tectonic event occurred at end of late Oligocene and at the beginning of early Miocene; In the stage of middle Miocene, they were the traps of reef related to tectonic inversion events occurred at the end of middle Miocene; The stage of late Miocene, they were the stratigraphic traps related to the underground delta (HST N13) and the combination traps related to the inverted tectonics events occurred at the end of N13.

12. Practical application ability

- The study of relationship between sediments and tectonics plays an important role in determing the petroleum bearing traps including the stratigraphy, structural and combination ones

- The schemas of paleogeographic lithofacies are very useful data for building the premies to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of soure rock, reservoir rock and seal rock for the Miocene sediments in Phu Khanh basin.

13. Further research directions

Continue to carry on the further study on recontruction of the sections of the secondary basin with higher accuracy and more detailed. Based on these reconstructed sections, it will be able to reconstruct the better secondary basins. These data will be very inportant for establishing the paleo-relief maps and structural maps for different stages of the basin. Based on those maps, the isopach maps and paleogeographic – lithologic facies maps will be made for deterning three systems tract domains (LST, TST. HST) and evaluating the hydrocarbon significance of the basin better.
