11. Summary of the new findings of the dissertation

- Establishing a theoretical basis for: The relationship between ethnic culture conservation and community tourism development; Conditions for development of community tourism; Criteria for evaluating community tourism in association with the conservation and promotion of ethnic culture. From there, apply to the national tourist area of ​​Hoa Binh reservoir.

- Established a set of criteria for assessing the impact of community tourism on conservation and promotion of local culture in study area, including 21 criteria divided into 5 groups: i) Acceptance of cultural diversity, ii) Preserving ethnic languages, iii) Preserving the ethnic culture identity, iv) Ethnic self-consciousness, v) Culture contributes to socio-economic development. This is the basis for assessing the impact of tourism on conservation, promotion of ethnic culture ​​and sustainable cultural development.

- The thesis has analyzed and evaluated the conditions for community tourism development in association with the conservation and promotion of ethnic culture in Hoa Binh reservoir area. These are the following five basic conditions: i) Cultural tourism resources, especially ethnic culture with typical valley culture, ii) Local people are ethnic minorities with limited tourism skills, but willing to support tourism development, iii) Prospects tourist market, iv) Good accessibility, v) Other supporting conditions.

- The thesis has assessed the current situation of community tourism development in association with conservation and promotion of ethnic culture in Hoa Binh reservoir area in terms of: the growth of the number of tourists, tourism revenue, tourism infrastructure, investment and promotion of tourism as well as inadequacies in community tourism development; participation of local people in tourism.

- The study has assessed the impact of community tourism on ethnic culture in Hoa Binh reservoir area and the sustainability of ethnic culture in community tourism activities for the entire Hoa Binh reservoir area and case studies according to 5 groups of criteria and 21 criteria as mentioned above.

- Research has built the process of preserving and promoting ethnic culture in tourism activities; as well as building tourism products and services with local cultural characteristics

- The study proposed orientations and solutions to develop community-based tourism in association with preserving and promoting ethnic culture.

12. Practical Applicability

            The results of the thesis are suggestions for local authorities to:  

- Identify and select ethnic culture ​​in Hoa Binh reservoir area as a typical resource for the community tourism development.

-  Identify clearly the impacts of tourism on ethnic culture. From there, make plans to promote ethnic culture for sustainable community tourism development.

The solutions and models of community tourism development proposed by the thesis can bring practical values ​​to the development of community tourism and contribute to the preservation and promotion of culture as well as improvement of living standards, community development and cultural development.
