On 17 September, 2020, VNU-IS hosted an online meeting with Asst. Prof. Dr. Itthisek Nilkhamhang, Deputy Director for International Affairs and Corporate Relations and his colleagues representing Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Thailand. 

During the meeting, VNU-IS and SIIT discussed a potential collaboration in establishing student exchange programs which offer VNU-IS students an opportunity to not only participate in classes and cultural exchanges with Thailand students but also join research projects and take internships at SIIT.  Likewise, SIIT students will have a chance to take part in VNU-IS Study Tour program to learn about Vietnamese history, economics, culture and heritage.

Both sides also talked about the possibility of cooperation in faculty exchange under VNU-IS “Visiting Scholars Program” to facilitate SIIT professors and lecturers in jointly implementing practical and highly applicable researches with VNU-IS research groups as well as lecturing a number of subjects in its training programs and vice versa. In addition, SIIT promoted its dual degree scholarships, master’s degree in particular, to VNU-IS young faculty members.

Founded in 1992, Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT) is an international institute of Thammasat University (Thailand) with autonomous operations, independent of the bureaucratic system. SIIT offers 9 international programs in Engineering, Technology and Management with all courses are conducted in English. Graduates of SIIT programs will receive degrees awarded by Thammasat University. The Institute has about 3,000 students in two campuses, 4 research centers and 7 research units. SIIT was rated “excellence” for research outcomes measured as numbers of equivalent international journal papers published by the Thailand Research Fund (TRF). Equally important, SIIT has 80 global partners across the world such as those from Europe, Japan, North America, ASEAN, etc. 

It is hoped that VNU-IS and SIIT cooperation in the upcoming time will be fruitful and mutually beneficial, leading to a long-term successful partnership.
