The University of Tokyo (UT) is the University's oldest and most prestigious in Japan established in 1987. As a leading research university in Japan, UT has undergraduate and postgraduate training programs and coordination of research activities in different fields.
 UT has 7672 staff, faculty and 28,020 undergraduate students and graduate students. In 2006, UT had 2540 international students in and 2700 foreign researchers to exchange short-term and long-term period. UT is a famous for excellent staff and students since its establishment. Many students have become leaders in government, in business and education.
 UT includes 10 college and faculties, 15 graduate schools and 11 research institutes and 19 university-wide centers. There are also 21 service centers for scholars of all departments and faculties of the University, and some centers are also open to scholars from universities in Japan.
