Promoting Vietnam - DPRK cooperation in education
In the afternoon of August 2, 2012, Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan had a meeting with H.E. Prof. Song Ja Rip – Member of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party, Minister of Higher Education and President of the Kim Il Sung University of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Attending the meeting were also Mr. Kim Chang II – DPRK Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Ri Ho Jun – Counselor of the DPRK Embassy in Vietnam, and Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Minh Giang – VNU Vice President.
Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan expressed his pleasure on the progress in the relationship of the two countries and believed in the further developed cooperation among DPRK Ministry of Higher Education, Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training and VNU. VNU is one of the two national universities in Vietnam with high level in training, science and technology, he said, adding that VNU would create the best conditions for DPRK students and organize scientific workshops so as to foster the friendship and cooperation between the two nations, particularly in education and training. Besides, he wished that DPRK would obtain more achievements in the cause of national building and development.
H.E. Prof. Song Ja Rip said that he spent lots of interest in the two countries’ cooperation in education as well as the cooperation between the Kim Il Sung University and Vietnamese universities and research institutes, especially VNU.
Previously, in the afternoon of August 1, 2012, an MoU was entered between H.E. Prof. Song Ja Rip and Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan – VNU President.
The signing ceremony of this first MoU between the two unviersities in Vietnam and DPRK was in the series of official activities of the Kim Il Sung University delegation in Vietnam for promoting the two countries’ partnership in education and training.
At the ceremony, the two sides introduced their general information and achievements in the past and present as well as shared the similarities in culture between the two countries. The two universities’ presidents affirmed that the two sides’ cooperation would be further enhanced.
Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Minh Giang reasserted the promising prospect in the cooperation of the two universities, especially in the fields of common interest. He also showed his impression on the special attention that DPRK leaders offered to the Kim Il Sung University. As for him, “look to the outside world” and “assert self-control” might be the scientific contents of discussion for the two nations’ scientists in the years to come.
Ambassador Kim Chang II thanked VNU for creating the most favorable conditions for DPRK students and children of officials at DPRK Embassy in Vietnam to study at this university.
Within the working framework at VNU, the Kim Il Sung University delegation visited and worked with 5 VNU-affiliated universities to seek and discuss cooperation possibilities and prospect.
Accepting the official invitation of H.E. Prof. Song Ja Rip, Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan and VNU delegation would visit the Kim Il Sung University during the year.
