The 2020 ASEAN - Korea Youth Summit: opportunity to bring the voice of the youth to the prosperous development of the community
I am Ly Phuong Thanh, 3rd year student at International University – Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh. I am participating in this summit with a role of National Leader of the Vietnamese team.

It is a great honor to be one of 10 representatives of Vietnamese youths at 2020 ASEAN - Korea Youth Summit. Along with that is the joy and responsibility of taking on the role of Nation Leader of the Vietnamese team. Coming to the summit, I brought all my knowledge from international conferences and programs that I have attended previously. The program focuses on the New Southern policy, so I also read through various documents related to the ASEAN-Korea Summit in 2019, held in Busan. The purpose of giving the youth of the region the opportunity to bring their voice to the prosperous development of the community was divided into 6 sub-groups according to 6 separate topics and discussed with other countries' delegates. I was fortunate to be in Group 6 to discuss the topic of Global Citizenship Education - the topic that I am most interested in when writing an essay to submit to the program. Everyone in the group gave their energetic opinions, the problems of the area were identified, and with a practical solution from each one personally. I have written and presented issues regarding the differences and disparities in education in Vietnam between urban and remote areas. I learned a broader view of the issues of education in other countries that I have never before known such as in Malaysia, where a delegate mentioned the interest in refugee’s education. People also introduced projects and programs to help the community through education in their own countries. As a Nation Leader, I am also required to thoroughly understand all 6 discussion topics to lead a private meeting of the Vietnamese team and come up with solutions from the Vietnamese side. Attending the meeting with domestic delegates, together with everyone to create a common voice for the ASEAN - Korea community, I have learned a great deal from hearing teammates' opinions and perspectives on these 6 topics, practical solutions that they want to act together after the program.

As a representative of Vietnam in some international conferences, summits, I acknowledged very soon that the differences of opinions and ideas make a conference successful, so I have to learn to listen to others’ opinions, welcome their contributions and efforts. Especially, sensitive issues of our region like the East Sea, the use of water in Mekong River of common countries. I came there with a spirit of learning and sharing. Bringing Vietnamese image at an international level summit, I have carefully prepared for my presentations, my ideas, knowledge towards the topics required. I want international friends to know that Vietnamese people are not only hard-working, knowledgeable, but they are very empathetic and gracious. I also introduced my projects in Vietnam as a pride when I can do many good things to develop my country with small actions.
