The two gold medalists were Ngo Quy Dang – a 12th grader and Pham Viet Hung – a 11th grader, both from VNU HUS High School for Gifted Students.
Most notably, Ngo Quy Dang recorded the highest score of the Olympiad with 42/42 points. It marked the first time in 20 years that a contestant from Vietnam has scored maximum points at the IMO, since 2003.
The silver medalists were Pham Hoang Son – a 12th grader from the High School for the Gifted under VNU Ho Chi Minh City and Nguyen Dai Duong- a 12th grader from the Lam Son High School for the Gifted in Thanh Hoa province.
The two bronze medals went to 12th graders Vu Ngoc Binh and Hjoang Tien Nguyen from the Vĩnh Phúc High School for Gifted Students in Vinh Phuc province and Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students in Nghe An province, respectively.
