VNU-UET: Opening ceremony of AUN’s quality assessment activities for the Bachelor program in Electronics and Communications Engineering
In the morning of April 8, 2013, VNU kicked off the external quality assessment of the Bachelor program in Electronics and Communications Engineering under the cooperation project betweenASEAN University Network (ANU) and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The foreign experts in external assessment,Prof.Dr. Fauza Ab. Ghaffar – the University of Malaya; Prof.Dr. Ralph Kennel – Technical University of Munich, German and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Mohammad Faizal Ahmad Fauzi – Multimedia University, Malaysia attended the event.
The event also witnessed the attendance of representatives from General Department for Testing and Education Quality Accreditation, Ministry of Education and Training; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyễn Kim Sơn – VNU Vice President; representatives of VNU units as well as leaders, staff, lecturers and students of VNU University of Engineering and Technology.
Speaking at the event, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyễn Kim Sơn emphasized that VNU is the leading, multi-disciplinary and comprehensive training and research center in Vietnam with a high autonomy and self-responsibility in training and scientific research activities. In recent years, VNU has been spending efforts to reach international standards in academic fields. For VNU, quality is always regarded as the first priority, therefore VNU established the Center for Education Quality Assurance and Research Development (now VNU Institute for Education Quality Assurance) in 1994, which has become the first unit responsible for quality assurance in the Vietnamese university system.
According to VNU Vice President, VNU has proved its active participation in the assessment activities of AUN. Four training programs of VNU have been recognized by AUN standards and many other training programs have been recognized by other international accrediting organizations, which has become an evidence for the high training quality towards international standards of VNU. The Bachelor Program in Electronics and Communications Engineering, one of the programs in VNU’s project on International Standards Program (Strategic Mission program), is the second program of VNU-UET, the fifth program of VNU and the thirteenth program in Vietnam being accredited by AUN standards.
A representative of the foreign experts in external assessment and Rector of VNU-UET also gave addresses at the event. Then came the assessment activities which were conducted in various sessions, including having an interview with lecturers and staff of the program and paying a visit to the facilities of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunication (lecture halls, library, laboratories, etc.), and other VNU related units, including Library and Information Center, Center for Students Services, etc.
The assessment finished on 10th April 2010 after a number of working sessions and meetings to discuss the assessment results. This activity has been in phase 3 of the cooperation project betweenAUN and DAAD which was started in 2010 to promote the international cooperation towards recognition and interconnectedness between ASEAN and Europe Union. The assessment result is expected to be released one month later and the certificate will be conferred by both AUN and DAAD.
