VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ visited Kuban State University, Russia
Within the framework of his business trip to Russia, in the afternoon of May 17, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ led the delegation of VNU senior officials to visit and work with Kuban State University.

Receiving the delegation were Kuban State University’s President Mikhail Borisovich Astapov, Vice President for Scientific ResearchMikhail G. Baryshev and representatives of functional departments.
Also attended the meeting was Mr. Trần Quốc Triệu – Chairman of Vietnamese Community in Krasnodar, a Vietnamese alumni at Kuban State University.
President Mikhail Borisovich Astapov informed that being the leading university in Southern Russia, Kuban State University has signed cooperation agreements with dozens of universities from many countries, especially cooperation in science and technology as well as double degree training. Kuban State University’s strengths are in Physio-chemistry, Mathematics, Materials Science, etc., and the University’s Faculty of Chemistry and High Technologies is one of the strongest scientific research units in Russia.
VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ expressed his sincere thanks to the hospitality offerred by Kuban State University and stated that the working visit of VNU delegation to Kuban State University was within the framework of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng’s official visit to Russian Federation, which aimed at tightening the existing relationship and raising the cooperative relationship between the two countries in various fields, including the cooperation in education, training, science and technology, to a new level in the coming time.
VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ highly appreciated Russia’s potential in science, technology and training. Also on that occasion, he gave an overview of VNU and proposed cooperation plans with Kuban State University in 4 scientific research fields of common strength and mutual needs, namely: Applied mathematics, high-performance computing and advanced mathematics; Medicical Science – application of basic science to application in medicine research; Chemistry and Biochemistry; Nano technology and new materials.
As for training, VNU President suggested cooperation directions like students exchange and joint training at PhD level by which postgraduate students would spend one year studying in Russia and two-year studying in Vietnam under the co-supervision of the two countries’ scientists.
President Mikhail Borisovich Astapov totally agreed with VNU President’s proposals and urged the two sides to complete the list of research directions for cooperation and discuss the specific fields for students exchange and joint training at PhD level.
After the meeting, VNU delegation visited library system, museums and nano technology center of Kuban State University.
Kuban State University is the largest university in Kranodar region which consists of 17 faculties, 3 institutes and a branch. The university has experienced a rapid increase in the number of foreign students from 55 different countries and continents. Vietnamese students have been among the first foreign students studying at Kuban State University. Currently, Kuban State University has 28 Vietnamese students including 25 undergraduates, 2 pre-university students and 1 postgraduate.
