11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

Identification of the development orientation of some tourism types  based on the assessment of natural conditions and tourism resources using specific evaluation criteria. The evaluation results are also the basis for proposing solutions to reasonably exploit the tourism resource potentials which contributes to sustainable tourism development in the Ly Son island district.

A set of criteria to evaluate the level of sustainable tourism development in economy, society and environment has been created for the Ly Son island district which serve as a tool for the determination of the level of sustainability of tourism activities in this area.

The evaluation results will be the basis for proposing directions and solutions for sustainable tourism development in terms of economic, social and environmental sustainability in the Ly Son island district.

12. Practical applicability

The research results is a scientific basis and reference materials valuable for the strategic planning of resource exploitation and tourism master plan in the overall socio-economic development of the Ly Son island district.

The research results also created a valuable scientific basis and reference materials for strategic planning and solutions for tourism development in the Ly Son island district towards sustainability (in economy, society and environment). This result is also considered as a guide for local authorities to concretize plans, organize tourism activities, and implement solutions for sustainable tourism development of the locality.

13. Further research directions

(i) Extension of research limits to obtain a “picture” of the sustainable tourism status of the Ly Son island tourism destination in relation to other island tourism destinations with similar conditions;

(ii) More quantitative research on natural environment issues for sustainable tourism development;

(iii) Research on the sustainability of the tourist activities by seasons.
