Vietnam and Japan: Together to promote the Vietnam - Japan University Project
On April 7, 2015, Vietnam National University (VNU) President Phùng Xuân Nhạ welcomed and had a working session with Mr. Takebe Tsutomu, Special Advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance.

 

Attending the working session, from VNU were Vice President Nguyễn Hoàng Hải, Manager of the Vietnam - Japan University Project Vũ Anh Dũng and Director of  Cooperation and Development Department Nguyễn Anh Thu; for Japan’s side were Mr. Katsuro Nagai, Envoy of the Japanese Embassy in  Vietnam, Mr. Teruno Tsuneda, CEO of Mainichi Newspaper - one of the three biggest newspapers in Japan and Mr. Teruno Tsuneda, Japan’s TOA Synthetic Research Institute Secretary General.The two sides exchanged useful information relating to the Vietnam - Japan University Project.

Discussing the situation of the project implementation to date, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ said that after the groundbreaking ceremony in Hòa Lạc on December 20, 2014, the site clearance had almost been completed and the building of Vietnam-Japan University’s  facilities had been ready to start.

Vietnam - Japan University’s operation regulation has now been designed and is being finalized for Vietnam Prime Minister’s approval and promulgation this year. Besides, many other activities are being well implemented.

VNU will accelerate the designing of an overall plan including a detailed timeline  for the implementation of each project item, the workload to be shared by both parties and the proposals to the Government of Vietnam and that of Japan.

 

 

To prepare for 2016 admissions, VNU has policies to attract proficient domestic scientists, staff, faculty and will soon send its staff members to Japan to train prior to their work as lecturers for Vietnam - Japan University.

Also according to VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ, this year, VNU will collaborate with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) to hold a workshop on investment promotion in Vietnam to attract businesses’ attention to the project.

Speaking at the session, Mr. Takebe Tsutomu, Special Advisor to the Japan - Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, said that the two sides should collaborate more closely to implement the project as scheduled.

To push up the project’s progress, like Vietnam, Japan has established the Project Promotion Commission (most of its members are heads of Japanese Government’s departments and agencies) headed by Japan’s Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Seko Hiroshige.

Mr. Takebe Tsutomu stressed, "The designing of a specific action plan for Vietnam - Japan University is an essential task which the two countries need to jointly fulfill. This will facilitate the calling on businesses to invest in the project”.
