Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF): Education for Development
On June 15, 2012, Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan – VNU President and Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Minh Giang – VNU Vice President had a meeting with Dr. Isaac Silvera – Chairman of the VEF Board of Directors and Dr. Lynne McNamara – Executive Director, VEF.

On behalf of VNU, Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Minh Giang said that in attempt to become the leading research university in Vietnam and reach international standards, VNU focused on international cooperations in which VEF was considered as the priority partner. He hoped that the cooperation between the two parties would further develop and that VEF would support VNU in training and research activities by inviting renowned American professors and scholars to give lectures at VNU and conduct joint research with VNU scientists. Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Minh Giang also introduced some VNU’s strong graduate and undergraduate training programs and emphasized that in the years to come, VNU would promote the graduate training including doctoral training programs in some majors likeVietnamese history, for instance.
Dr. Isaac Silvera stated that VEF would offer some support to VNU, particularly in research and she hoped that VNU would promote PhD training, create the competitive environment for development and encourage them to get involved in research. VEF would provide opportunities for VNU’s best students to study and research at American prestigious universities in order to strengthen their capacities to contribute to Vietnam’s future development. In the near future, VEF would invite some American professors to give lectures in Vietnam.
In addition, the two sides discussed some financial investment plans and new cooperation activities.
