Bulgarian National Assembly Speaker Rosen Dimitrov Jeliazkov: Culture and education are the key to the two countries’ connection and mutual development
During the five-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, on January 1, 2024, Bulgarian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Rosen Dimitrov Jeliazkov and his delegation paid a visit to Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and delivered a speech on “Bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Vietnam through the lens of economic and cultural ties”.

VNU President Le Quan welcomed had a working session with the Delegation.

Attending the meeting with Bulgarian NA Speaker Rosen Dimitrov Jeliazkov were Vice Chairman of the NA, Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the NA Committee for External Relations.

VNU President Le Quan expressed his honour to welcome Bulgarian NA Speaker Rosen Dimitrov Jeliazkov and his delegation to visit and interact with VNU’s lecturers and students.

VNU President Le Quan said that VNU was one of the leading universities in Vietnam with its mission of training high-quality human resources and fostering talents; scientific research, technology development and multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral knowledge transfer; contributing to the development and protection of the country; playing the central role of a pillar in Vietnam higher education system.

VNU and its member universities have established cooperative ties with more than 300 universities, research institutes, and educational organizations in the world, including those of Bulgaria. In 2023, VNU University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the University of Veliko Tarnovo launched the “Bulgaria-Vietnam” dictionary to preserve the scientific works by the authors over nearly 40 years. VNU University of Economics and Business cooperated with Varna University of Management in student exchange within the framework of the Erasmus+ Project; exchanged lecturers with Sofia University, etc. Many generations of VNU students have been studying at prestigious training institutions in Bulgaria.

With the close cooperation tradition of the two countries, VNU President Le Quan believed that VNU and Bulgarian universities would have opportunities to exchange and cooperate more strongly in the fields of education, training, and scientific research, which are the most important basis for a sustainable partnership between the two countries.

According to Mr. Rosen Dimitrov Jeliazkov, the meeting was a great opportunity for the two countries to envisage the future together. The world is experiencing dramatic changes in political trends and choices; economic challenges, threats to the young workforce, etc. The Bulgarian NA Speaker was impressed with the theme “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future” proposed by Vietnam hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum 2017 in Da Nang.

The Speaker hoped that the students of VNU in particular and students in the two countries in general, would be politicians, managers, scientists and strong-willed people. These people will help further develop the relations between Vietnam and Bulgaria.

Today, Bulgaria and Vietnam are always among the countries that stabilize the economies of the two continents. Though located in different continents, together, we have overcome hybrid threats, ensured supply chain sustainability, and develop technology and artificial intelligence.

The Speaker further noted that Bulgaria was important for Vietnam in that it had provided training for thousands of Vietnamese students during Vietnam’s post-war reconstruction; more than 30,000 Vietnamese citizens have studied and worked in Bulgaria and 5,000 people have completed their higher education in Bulgaria.

According to Bulgarian NA Speaker Rosen Dimitrov Jeliazkov, in addition to the goal of economic development, the two countries always focus on cultural development based on their historical similarities. The two countries have had a tradition of spiritual closeness since the first days of cooperation. "This year, in education, we would like to welcome exchange lecturers from Vietnam to Bulgaria to promote Vietnam's culture and literary to our country." He affirmed that culture was the key that helped the two peoples connect and integrate with each other.

During his visit to VNU, Bulgarian NA Speaker Rosen Dimititrov Zhelyazkov visited VNU’s Traditional room and wrote messages in VNU’s Visitor’s book.
