11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- Firstly, the thesis finds out that in area around national hydropower reservoir, there is potentials for tourism development; thus, in these places, alongside with the traditional livelihoods, it is feasible to develop tourism as a livelihood.

- Secondly, this research has proved thatthe KSAP model (Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes, Practices) can be applied suitably for community-based tourism, especially in the mountainous ethnic minority communities.

- Thirdly, research results show that under the conditions for the development of community-based tourism, human resources, particularly those directly involved in tourism, whose knowledge, skills, attitudes, and practices are essential for doing tourism.

- Finally, the thesis has applied the SWOT model to help in finding out directions and proposing solutions to assist the local communities enhance both their living quality as well as awareness to protect the environment when participating into tourism business – a new sustainable livelihood for Tay people in the vicinity of Tuyen Quang hydropower reservoir.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

Firstly, the result of the dissertation can be used to raise awareness among local people on the benefits of tourism through education and propaganda in line with local characteristics.

Secondly, the study has revealed the role of enhancing the capacity in doing tourism business for local people in all aspects from supplementing knowledge, skills, awareness, to giving participatory practice. Apply the model of Club for community based tourism so that households in the same village can support each other to do tourism, which is a very viable solution for improving livelihoods, creating more jobs and incomes for the people.

- Thirdly, community-based tourism is a solution to preserve the fine traditional cultures of the locality, while limiting obsolete customs that are no longer appropriate in the present life.
