11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

The thesis contributes to the theory system of parenting style and self-esteem. It clarifies the impacts of parenting style to self-esteem of secondary school students and points put the factors that effect on their self-esteem.

The results of the study show that there are a relationship between parenting style and students’ self-esteem. Specially, the students, who assessed that their parenting style is permissive and democratic, has positive self-esteem in their emotional, future, and family aspects. In the contrary, the students, who supposed to think their parents are autism, has negative thinking about these aspects.

The considered objects of the study, secondary students, judged democratic or authoritarian parenting style have the greatest impact on their self-esteem. Moreover, they appraised that freedom-parenting style is the most influent style on their future self-esteem

The results show that in the different combinations of parenting style, the secondary students perceived that the democratic-authoritarian combining style influenced the self-esteem in their family’s ego. Moreover, the results also present that parenting style combined with their interest in the emotional life of their children is a factor to increase the students’ self-esteem.

Some factors that effect on the parenting style related to the characteristics of the child show that extracurricular children and the oldest child evaluated their parents’ parenting style is more domineering than introverted children and second children. Self-esteem of students are influenced by internal factors such as gender, introverted - extroverted, school and classroom.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

The thesis is considered as the references for Family Psychology, Child and Adolescent Counseling, Family Counseling, School Counseling. It could be applied in practices related to psychology for supporting the relationship between children and their parents.

13. Further research directions, if any:

The thesis suggests some open issues such as (1) Researching on parents’ aspect instead of children’s aspect on the relationship between parenting style and self-esteem of children and comparing the results, (2) Researching and designing scale to measuring parenting style combinations.
