11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
Through the research results about the the main character Stephen Dedalus in Joyce’s novels under the labyrinth vision, the dissertation contributes to find out the writer’s style, to define the role of the labyrinth as a hidden motif. It rules the whole context and to become Joyce’s writing technique. This is one of the important contributions in the renovation of the Eastern modern proses. In Vietnam, the dissertation is the first one to make a comprehensive study of Joyce’s novels from the angle of their main character and writing technique. It will be the basic of studying the modern proses in general and lecturing about Joyce in sparticular.
The dissertation affirms that the labyrinth is Joyce’s prominent writing technique. This technique rules the establishing artistic images, choosing the genres and the whole languages in Joyce’s novels. This conclusion gives out a new view in defining Joyce’s role in renovation of the twentieth century Eastern modern proses.
The dissertation opens the new way in studying about James Joyce’s works : he might return to the myth in his own way. It is not simple to parody the archetypal. He mythologised the languages in order to make it become the Creator when using his own labyrinth writing style.
12. Practical applicability, if any: If the doctoral is successful, it can be edited in order to be a consultative monograph for the students of the faculty of philology.
13. Further research directions, if any: Along with the articles, we translated “A Portrait of the Artist as a Young man” - a James Joyce’s novel when carrying on our doctoral. In the future, we will translate his other novels in order to introduce this famous writer’s works to the Vietnamese readers.
