11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- Identified and clarified the difference in formation factors, criteria for landscape classification in coastal areas - inshore islands, applied to coastal districts and Ly Son island district (Quang Ngai province) in term of landscape classification and zoning maps at 1:50,000 scale.

- Analyzed structure and characteristics in landscape differentiation of coastal districts and Ly Son island district (Quang Ngai province) according to taxonomy and zoning units. The interaction between factors, the physical-geographic processes of the mainland - marine and inshore island systems and the impact of human activities has created the diversity and differentiation of the landscape from the mainland to the sea and islands in the study area. The landscape system includes 01 system, 02 sub-systems, 03 classes, 06 sub-classes, 9 types and 108 kinds of landscapes (75 kinds of land landscapes, 27 kinds of seascapes and 06 kinds of islandscapes) and 08 landscape sub-areas. The landscape differentiation is clearly shown in the west - east direction (from low mountain landscapes, hills and plains transitioning to seascapes and islandscapes) and north - south direction (shown in the difference in morphological and humid-heat characteristics of the coastal plain landscape sub-areas).

- Proposed 32 areas for economic development coupling with rational use of natural resources and environmental protection have been proposed in 8 landscapes sub-areas based on the results of landscape ecological adaptation assessment, functional analysis of landscape sub-areas combined with comparative advantage analysis and local socio-economic development orientation.

- Established the model connecting mainland and sea and island for the Northeast region of Quang Ngai province, which is a development triangle with two poles on the mainland (Dung Quat industrial city and Quang Ngai city) and one pole on the island (Ly Son island) with two development lines. The model components with structural organization of material-product transport flow in terms of socio-economic, science - technology, security - defense and environment contributing to harmonious development not only for the model but also for Quang Ngai province and other areas from the advantage of external links.

12. Practical applicability, if any:

The database system, research results and thematic maps of the thesis are scientific documents of practical value for spatial planning of resource use and coastal protection at provincial level (especially Quang Ngai province) for managers' reference when providing organizational orientations, sustainable use of the territory and integrated coastal zone management.

13. Further research directions, if any

- Continue to research to contribute to completing the theory of seascape classification and determining criteria for each taxonomy level.

- Research and quantitatively evaluate landscape services in the study area to have a firmer basis for spatial orientation of economic development associated with rational use of resources, environmental protection and security - defense assurance.
