7. Official thesis title: Using microorganism to treat the solid wastes from cassava starch processing into bio-organic fertilizer

8. Major: Soil and Water Environment                 9. Code: 62440303

10. Supervisors: Assoc Prof. Dr. Nguyen Lan Huong and Assoc Prof. Dr. Tran Khac Hiep

11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

- To isolate, select and exploit the biological characteristics of three microorganisms including: one cellulose-degrading strain of Streptomyces griseorubens SHX.02, one phosphate solubilizing strain of Bacillus polyfermenticus SHB.18 and one nitrogen-fixing strain of Azotobacter beijerinckii SHV.07 to successfully produce multifunctional microbial product to treat of solid waste from cassava starch processing.

- To successfully apply microorganism preparation for rapid treating solid waste from cassava starch processing in Ninh Binh and Dak Lak province into bio-organic fertilizer to ensure quality according to Circular no.41/2014/TT-BNNPTNT. This fertilizer can replace manure, reduce 25% of NP fertilizer without affecting crop yield and initially improving the soil properties planting cassava in Krong Bong district - Dak Lak province.

12. Paratical applicability, if any:

The reuse of solid wastes as bio-organic fertilizers not only takes advantage of the discarded resources, but also helps cassava starch factories overcome environmental pollution, cleaner production in cassava starch production helps cement the plant with cassava farmers to ensure production inputs and sustainable development of organic agriculture.

13. Further research directions, if any:

- Continue use of microbial preparation in treatment of solid wastes from cassava starch processing at large scale in cassava starch factories throughout the country.

- Evaluate the effect of bio- organic fertilizers from cassava starch processing wastes on other crop species and soils types.
