Prof. Motoo Furuta held a number of important positions at the University of Tokyo and is currently Chairman of the Japanese Association for Southeast Asian Studies.

Prof. Motoo Furuta is currently Chairman of the Japanese-Vietnamese Friendship Association and Chairman of the Japanese Association for Vietnamese Studies. He is also a contemporary Vietnamese history and politics expert having greatly contributed to the promoting of VNU Vietnam-Japan University’s establishment. Moreover, Prof. Motoo Furuta has recently been granted VNU’s Honorary Doctorate. VNU’s International Visiting Scholars Scheme VNU Vice President Lê Quân said that the current VNU’s International Visiting Scholars (including overseas Vietnamese) Scheme was aimed at creating strong intellectual resources for the enhancing of training and research quality in VNU’s affiliates. According to VNU Vice President Lê Quân, VNU focuses on attracting prestigious scientists to serve as international scholar network developers. In addition, over 500 foreign-trained Ph.Ds working for VNU are ambassadors to attract their foreign colleagues and professors to VNU’s activities. Through this scheme, VNU expects to have a large number of prestigious overseas Vietnamese scientists as guest lecturers and researchers at the university. The scheme is also expected to draw more international students to VNU.
