This is the first visit to Vietnam of a French president after 12 years, since the visit of President Jacques Chirac in 2004. This will be an opportunity for President Hollande to mention to the new cooperative directions between the two countries. The visit of French President Francois Hollande contributes to the leading role of VNU in Vietnam’s education system and raises the status of Vietnam’s universities in the international arena. As a leading academic and research center in Vietnam, VNU is the destination for many famous scholars, scientists, especially the heads of states, politicians such as President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, Former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton, Former President of the People's Republic of China Jiang Zemin, President of South Korean Lee Myung-bak, President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grimsson Republic, President of the Republic of Kazkhstan Nursultan Abishuly Nazarbayev, United States Secretary of Defense Robert Gates Michael, Prince Philippe Léopold Louis Marie of Belgium and Princess Mathilde Marie Christine Ghislaine of Belgium. French President Hollande was born on August 12, 1954 in Rouen. He graduated from Hautes Etudes Commerciales de Paris (HEC Paris) and Paris Institute of Political Studies. He becomes the 7th president of France since 2011. President Hollande is the third president of France to visit Vietnam after the visit of President François Mitterrand in 1993 and President Jacques Chirac in 1997 and 2004.
