Having solved 9 problems in 941 minutes, VNU University of Engineering and Technology BYTE team surpassed 110 other teams from both domestic and foreign universities to become the Champion and thus qualified for the ACM / ICPC World Finals to be held in Phuket, Thailand in May, 2016. There were also three first prizes, four second prizes and four third prizes given to other teams. This is the first time a Vietnam team has ranked top in an Asia regional qualifying round held in Vietnam. Prior to the ACM / ICPC Asia Hanoi, on November 9, 2015, five Vietnam teams took part in the ACM / ICPC Asia Jakarta Regional Contest and were ranked 5th. 
On November 20, 2015, at the ACM / ICPC Asia Phuket Regional Contest, ranked 4th and 6th, two Vietnam teams won two Silver Cups, thus closely running-up behind the teams from China’s, Taiwan’s renowned universities, and surpassing the Japanese teams. These were the teams among Top 12 at the 2015 ACM / ICPC World Finals held in Morocco. Vietnam first successfully hosted the 2006 ACM / ICPC Asia Regional Collegiate Programming Contest at VNU University of Engineering and Technology. Subsequently, qualifying rounds of ACM / ICPC Asia were hosted by other Vietnamese universities in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. This year’s qualifying round attracted the participation of 333 students from 111 teams, including 12 teams from China, Korea, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia and Taiwan.
