VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ attended the International Conference on the Future of Asia and Vietnam-Japan educational cooperation
From May 22-25, 2013, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ joined the Governmental delegation led by Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Thiện Nhân to Japan to attend the 19th International Conference on the Future of Asia and Vietnam-Japan educational cooperation.

Representatives of leaders of Governmental Office, Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs also joined the delegation in this visit.
"The Future of Asia" is a prestigious annual forum bringing together government leaders, top business executives and scholars to discuss the future of Asia-Pacific nations and how development in the region stands to impact the global economy.
The opening ceremony of this year’s conference, whichwas organized by Nikkei Newspaper and Japan Centre for Economic Research (JCER), took place in Tokyo on May 23. Under the theme: “Asia’s Search for Steps toward Stronger Ties and Integration”, the conference focused the discussions on the issues of integration, economic development and challenges to the regional security with the aim to strengthen the cooperation in the region for the sustainable development of the whole Asia.
Attending this conference, Vietnam hopes to express its positive role in the region through the discussion and proposal of solutions to the challenges posed in the development of Asia, and popularize Vietnam’s image to regional and international friends. Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Thiện Nhân proposed the idea of establishing 6 specialized forums in the Asia region to maintain the dynamic growth for a more stable and prosperous region.
On the sidelines of the 19th “Future of Asia” Conference, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ attended the Forum on Vietnam-Japan educational cooperation on May 24. On this occasion, Vietnamese and Japanese participants presented and discussed the measures to strengthen Vietnam-Japan cooperation in the fields of education, training, science and technology as well as human resource development, building the foundation for the economic development of both nations.
Within the framework of the visit, VNU President Phùng Xuân Nhạ paid a working visit to the University of Tokyo. The University of Tokyo President Junichi Hamada congratulated VNU President on his new position and expressed his belief in the good results of the cooperation between the two universities. The two sides discussed the possibility of strengthening cooperation through the commitment of promoting the doctoral training under the 911 Project, promoting the research coordination in the key research programs of VNU and enhancing the cooperation activities within the framework of BESETOHA (a forum of 4 major universities in East Asia) of which VNU and the University of Tokyo are members.
Also, VNU President had a meeting with Mr. Tsutomu Takebe – Honorary President of Japan-Vietnam Business Forum to discuss and boost the construction project of Japan-Vietnam University in Hoa Lac High-Tech Park.
