Continuing to affirm their strengths, VNU’s Youth Union and Student Association have carried out their activities professionally with new creative features and practicality. During the academic year, many major activities were implemented, such as the competition to explore Marxism-Leninism, President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology and history of the Communist Party of Vietnam entitled "The Way of Light"; the contest "Excellent Union - Association Officers"; the contest "English for students"; Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign; a series of activities to welcome the new academic year; the Exhibition of VNU’s scientific and technological products, etc. In 2020, VNU Youth Union and Student Association directed their units to organize activities for improvement of students’ professional skills and employability through skills training classes and recruitment festivals.

VNU's Youth Union and Student Association implemented four major movements for different groups of their members: the movement "Three responsibilities" for lecturers and researchers; the movement “Good Expertise - Excellent Professional Skills - Proper Manner" for administration cadre members; the movement "5-Good-Deed Students” for undergraduate students and the movement “3-Good-Deed Students” for high school students. The movements have created a positive learning and training environment, and a vibrant emulation atmosphere in the sub-unions.

In 2020, VNU's Youth Union successfully organized "VNU Boy and Girl Students Football Tournament"; "Club’s Day", "Healthy Youth" Festival; seminars "Students and Launchpad 4.0”, etc.

Arts festivals and contests as well as cultural and art exchange programs were also organized, such as "Hello K music night", "Sing up 2020 Show your voice - Sing your soul", the GALA “Young aspiration”, "Take off music night", etc.

In addition to the purpose of relaxation and entertainment after stressful study hours, VNU’s member units’ Youth Unions organized cultural activities combined with education on ethnic traditions and cultures, such as Regions’ cultures festival, the program "Sacred Sound" - learn and experience the folk arts (Chèo - Xẩm - Chầu văn).

VNU’s unions continued to pay attention to the fostering of reading culture among students and directed VNU’s Youth Union to organize book festivals, book exchange days that attracted the participation of numerous bookstores, and publishing houses; thousands of students participated in the program “Reading culture” comprising exchange activities with famous speakers and learning about literary works, youth’s reading culture, views and comments of young people; advertised book loan and return application at VNU Library and Information Centre, “Books - my friend” contest, reading week, etc. The activities helped spread love of books, using books and textbooks among youth union members.

Diverse sports events were promoted through sports festivals and tournaments. VNU’s member units’ Youth Unions paid attention to developing appropriate hobby clubs for their union members as well as proactively participated in competitions organized by the Central Youth Union, Central Student Association, and Hanoi Youth Union - Student Association, such as the online competition "Run now, defeat the SARS-CoV-2", etc,..
